BHOC Madrid 2024: The Beginning of a New Way to Learn
November 2024
In November 2024, MInDSiTE hosted the first Bifurcation Hands-On Course (BHOC) in Madrid, marking the beginning of a project that would transform interventional cardiology education through simulation.
Sponsored by SMT Iberia, BHOC was created with a clear purpose: to complement traditional education with a practical, immersive, and hands-on learning experience. The idea of this medical training was simple yet ambitious—to provide specialists with a realistic environment where they could practice complex procedures before performing them in clinical practice.

New medical training model built around simulation
The first BHOC achieved much more than its educational objectives. It laid the foundations for a new training model built around simulation, hands-on experience, and collaborative learning.
That first edition marked the birth of the BHOC format, which has since become MInDSiTE's flagship educational program and a benchmark for simulation-based medical training in interventional cardiology.
Every innovation has a starting point.
For MInDSiTE, that journey began in Madrid in November 2024, driven by a belief that continues to define the project today: the best skills are not simply taught—they are trained.

Different educational approach in medical training
From its very first edition, BHOC embraced a different educational approach. Traditional lectures were kept to a minimum, allowing participants to spend most of their time training with simulation, interactive digital tools, and real PCI devices on dedicated bench models designed specifically for coronary bifurcation interventions.
Throughout the course, interventional cardiology fellows had the opportunity to learn and perform two of the most widely used two-stent bifurcation techniques: DK Crush and DK Culotte. Beyond technical training, every procedure became an opportunity to discuss strategies, exchange experiences, and learn from colleagues with different levels of expertise.
The course also integrated interactive digital tools to reinforce both the theoretical concepts and the procedural workflow, creating a dynamic learning environment that closely reflected real-world clinical practice.
