OCTICO Madrid 2025 – Bringing Virtual Reality into Intracoronary Imaging Education

November 2025

MInDSiTE held the second edition of its OCTICO training programme in Madrid, in collaboration with Abbott, introducing virtual reality as an innovative educational tool for Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) interpretation and PCI optimisation.

A new dimension in OCT education

Following the success of the first OCTICO course in León, MInDSiTE continued its commitment to advancing interventional cardiology education with a second edition held in Madrid in November 2025.

Developed in collaboration with Abbott, the programme focused on strengthening the systematic interpretation of intracoronary OCT images, a valuable technique for assessing coronary anatomy and supporting decision-making during percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI).

This edition introduced an exciting new element: a virtual reality (VR) simulator designed to create a more immersive, interactive and engaging learning experience.

Learning through immersion: a new approach to medical training

By incorporating virtual reality into the programme, MInDSiTE explored how immersive technologies and gamification can complement traditional teaching methods, making complex imaging concepts more accessible and engaging.

The objective was to reinforce OCT image interpretation while connecting theoretical knowledge with its practical application in interventional cardiology.

From image interpretation to PCI optimisation, the course highlighted the clinical relevance of intracoronary imaging and the importance of a structured approach to image analysis.

Innovation and collaboration at the heart of MInDSiTE

The second edition of OCTICO reinforced the value of bringing together medical education, technological innovation and industry collaboration.

Working alongside Abbott, MInDSiTE continued exploring new educational formats that respond to the evolving needs of interventional cardiology professionals.

At MInDSiTE, we believe that advancing medical education means continuously rethinking how we learn, practise and share knowledge.

OCTICO Madrid marked another step in that journey, demonstrating the potential of immersive technologies to enrich specialised cardiovascular training.
